One Response to Some Other Central Virginia Midwives

  1. JOSEPHINE CARTER GARNER says:

I was born at the University of Virginia hospital in Charlottesville, VA., however during that time, my maternal grandmother, Nannie Catherine Starks was the midwife for many babies born in Rappahannock County. I do not remember that she ever rec’d any payment for these services. Most of the poor people both white and black used her services to deliver their babies.
