Birth and Mortality Rates in Lynchburg, 1931-1943

Local birth rates for blacks and whites did not differ much until the early 1940s, when the rate for whites outstripped that for blacks. But death rates for the same period showed a mortality rate for blacks that was almost twice as high as that for whites.
